Glass Kilnforming Basic Workshop

About the Workshop

This workshop offers a basic introduction to glassworking and in particular, glass kilnforming. First, you will be introduced to various glass types suitable for creations in the kiln. Then, spend time picking up basic glass cutting skills with your own hands. Practice on industrial float glass to gain confidence in cutting regular shapes, before working on the actual glass that will be used to create your own item. Learn how to use the grinding machine to polish sharp edges before assembling your final creation. Next is the exciting part of creating your mold using high temperature materials suitable for firing in the kiln. Follow our existing template to create the main mold for the platter, then go wild with your imagination by creating your own patterns and designs with the same mold materials. For added personality, use fusible paints to paint onto the glass and make it a truly unique piece. Each participant will get to take home a beautiful platter of your own. Pieces will be fired during the workshop but will require time to cool. The completed piece will be available for collection three days later, or will be delivered to you ($5 delivery fee). This workshop is for beginners and no prior experience is required.
