Back to All Happenings Synergraphic presents Ash Yeo in NAFA Exhibition Photo Credit: Synergraphic presents Yeo Yeok Seng, Ash, in moved., an exhibition that showcases a range of creative works by artists and designers under the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) 3D Design Programme. As an artisan glass designer and maker, Synergraphic strongly supports and collaborates with artists and designers to ceaselessly challenge the boundaries of glass in different disciplines in order to discover new fluidities in the material. The artwork titled ‘This is not a code’, is designed as Functional Art, as a type of meaningful functional object (in this case a Master KeyPress Holder, or Artwork concealing a home security safe, or a bathroom cabinet), which also captures a reflective human aspect of contemporary philosophy about essential connection between language and soul. Using a variety of cold glass-working processes including bevelling, gluing, drilling of mirror and dichroic glass, Synergraphic is proud to support Ash in bringing the concept to life. The base artwork is painted meticulously by hand and manipulated using mathematical algorithms. The end result is a beautiful piece with a unique human-machinic touch that changes under different lighting conditions. As the light shifts, the landscape changes with it. Synergrahic’s Director, Sara Ang, also presented via a virtual webinar, “Transforming Spaces with Glass & Art”. She presented valuable insights on the material of glass and its new possibilities for design, having to use it with other medium. - New Place, New Era
Back to All Happenings New Place, New Era Photo Credit: It has been 27 years since we first stepped into this once new and now old factory in Changi. This was the home of so many ideas that through hard work and dedication, we were able to turn to reality. This place gave us endless opportunities to express our love for art and carry forward our passion for the medium of glass. We had 27 wonderful, brilliant years here. And we will be eternally grateful for this home. Yet, time has come when we need to move to another place as we assess where we are at present to give way to where our dreams want to take us. We made a lot of explorations and each one has become a learning milestone that will always be with us no matter what. We have gained much and loved everything this glass art adventure has taught us. And so now, we want to harness all our learnings and make them all work better. We will streamline our production, products and services, and build better disciplined processes in our new place. We are fully committed to keep the love for glass and art burning inside us. - Gin&G and Synergraphic Design Illuminate Sustainability with the CHANCE Light Sculpture
Back to All Happenings Gin&G and Synergraphic Design Illuminate Sustainability with the CHANCE Light Sculpture Photo Credit: SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE, 21 NOV 2024 Gin&G, a design studio passionate about placing sustainability at the forefront of its design ethos, and Synergraphic Design, a leader in innovative art glass solutions, have come together to reimagine waste materials as high-quality design elements. This collaboration breathes new life into glass offcuts with CHANCE, a series of light sculptures crafted from sheet glass remnants. Designed by Gin&G and meticulously brought to life in collaboration with Synergraphic Design, CHANCE exemplifies artistry and sustainable design in harmony. Originally commissioned for FURA, a plant-forward restaurant and bar envisioned as a sustainable culinary space, CHANCE embodies an innovative approach to reimagining offcuts as integral design elements. Inspired by FURA’s ethos of partnering with local food vendors to advance sustainability, Gin&G sought to extend this vision to spatial interiors and their curated objects. The studio initiated collaborations with industry partners known for supplying diverse building materials, inviting them to take part in reimagining waste as a constructive material. Working with Synergraphic, Gin&G sourced off-cut glass pieces, which were then repurposed, cut into organic geometric shapes, and layered together – turning them into beautiful light sculptures. CHANCE: EMBRACING THE BEAUTY OF THE UNPREDICTABLE The name CHANCE reflects the unpredictability in how each sculpture takes shape, as the available off-cut glass materials vary at the time of fabrication. The final arrangement of the glass layers results in a distinct composition, conceived by happenstance, with each piece becoming a one-of-a-kind artwork, shaped by entirely by ‘chance’. Through CHANCE, Gin&G and Synergraphic celebrate the innate potential of glass offcuts, reimagining them as objects of beauty and profound meaning. “Beyond the conceptualization of meaningful spatial interiors that transcend fleeting trends, the studio positions itself as both a testbed and research laboratory for innovative ideas, embracing sustainability through thoughtful explorations with alternative materials and the reimagining of waste. Through the prototyping of object designs and fostering cross-disciplinary collaborations, we aim to facilitate a substantive dialogue within the industry on sustainability and the transformative potential of material reuse.” said Georgina, partner and co-founder of GIN&G. "In the flat glass supply trade for the building industry, up to 25% of glass is often wasted when sheets are cut for various applications," said Sara Ang, Director of Synergraphic. "At Synergraphic, we’re committed to reducing this waste by repurposing glass offcuts into valuable products. Our program encourages our team and collaborating artists to transform discarded glass into pieces that are both beautiful and purposeful through diverse glass techniques," she added. Together, Gin&G and Synergraphic Design are redefining perceptions of off-cuts, demonstrating its potential as a sustainable medium for beautiful, meaningful art. Beyond its debut at FURA, CHANCE has been showcased at the EMERGE@FIND Design Fair curated by Design Anthology in 2023 and the Design Singapore Showcase at BOUTIQUES The Gifting Edition 2024. - Synergraphic Sponsors SIA60 Gold Medal Award Trophies; Sculpture Portrays Convergence of Nature and Human Intervention
Back to All Happenings Synergraphic Sponsors SIA60 Gold Medal Award Trophies; Sculpture Portrays Convergence of Nature and Human Intervention Photo Credit: ABOUT THE SIA60 GOLD MEDAL TROPHY SCULPTURE This sculpture emerges from fusing exquisite, high-quality glass sourced from the United States. It stands as a testament to artisanal skill, featuring an intricate tapestry of beautiful patterns nestled within. As light dances across its surface, shimmering sparkles come to life, revealing hidden gems and delicate swirls that evoke a sense of wonder. The sculpture resonates with the natural forces that shape our earth. Two towering pillars rise from its base, each adorned in colors symbolizing the prime elements of the Earth - yellow/brown for earth, red for fire, and blue for water. Like how molten lava flows and swirls according to the earth's natural rhythm and how it is sealed into its final creation when has cooled down, so is the way of architecture. It captures the harmony between nature's artistry and human intervention - thus, resulting in a wondrous fusion of the organic and the sculpted. The hues blend seamlessly, symbolizing the symbiotic relationship between humanity and the natural world. Contrasting colors find balance, a reflection of the beautiful synergy that arises when human intervention and nature coexist. The poem engraved on the base of the glass captures this message in writing. Lava blooms in time Mantle is formed, then passed on, Summits of glory Interestingly, the poem and the sculpture also narrate the story of the poem’s composer, Sara Ang, Director of Synergraphic Design, and the sculpture’s artist, Florence Ng, the Founder and Creative Director of Synergraphic Design. Florence is a veteran glass artist from Singapore who rallies to uphold the artistry of glass in the country and the region. Both the poem and the sculpture exemplify Sara and Flo’s collaborative harmony in preserving the craftsmanship of glass. They tell the story of a mother and child, who share the same passion and vision in their chosen craft and also paint a picture of leadership and succession within the family. The poem and the sculpture illustrate the originator passing the baton to the second-generation leader, who is to preserve and make rich the legacy of their craft. HOW SARA AND FLO COLLABORATE Sara and Florence unite their creative visions, converging their talents onto a single canvas. Florence, an illustrator, starts her creation visually in form, color, and movement, while Sara, puts words to emotion and thought. Together, they bring concepts and ideas to life, telling story through their combined creation. With each of their distinct styles and perspectives, they embark on a shared journey, weaving their individual artistry into a powerful whole.
